Amanda Elzy’s Panthers put up a valiant effort but just couldn’t overcome the Rams of Gentry High School as they fell 67-54 Tuesday night at Elzy.
Elzy (5-6) trailed 13-9 after the first, 26-18 at the half and 43-34 after the third period.
Devin Donley led the Panthers with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Reggie Miller, William Stewart and Darius Donley had nine points each. Miller also had five rebounds and five assists, and Stewart grabbed four rebounds. Darius Donley had three assists.
The Lady Panthers struggled in the first and fourth quarters against Gentry as the visitors from Indianola posted an 80-53 victory. The Lady Rams led 23-6 after one, 36-24 at the half and 58-44 after the third period.
Keyara McCline had 27 points to pace Elzy (3-7), and Alexandria Martin tallied 10. Tia Moore and Robin Collins had seven each.
n Greenwood High: Cleveland Central outscored the Bulldogs 26-17 in the fourth period to gain a 68-58 win Tuesday night in Cleveland.
Greenwood (5-6) led 18-8 after the first period and 27-24 at the half. The Wolves went in front 42-41 by the end of the third frame.
DeAndre Smith led GHS with 15 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. KeAndre Cross had eight points, and Marshakie Applewhite, Zacchaeus Moody and Jaydon Nwachi had seven points apiece. Applewhite had six boards, and Moody grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out five assists and made two steals. Nwachi had four rebounds.
The short-handed Lady Bulldogs dropped a 44-4 decision to Cleveland to fall to 3-8. Cleveland led 28-0 at the break.

The Elzy and Greenwood girls will get things started with the first game in the three-day round-robin tournament. The boys’ teams from both schools will get going at 5:30 p.m.
In the nightcap, Leflore’s girls and boys will take on West Tallahatchie at 7 and 8:30.
Friday also gets started at 4 as Greenwood and West Tally play the first two games. Leflore County and Elzy will meet in the final two games at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday has Elzy and West Tally playing at 3 and 4:30 p.m., while Greenwood and Leflore square off at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
