An 11-run outburst in the second inning propelled Pillow Academy to a 12-0 win over visiting Carroll Academy Tuesday at Utroska Field.
Pillow (5-1) plated its first run in the first frame. Gavin Lessley started on the mound for the Mustangs, earning the win. He went three innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out three. Eli Simmons worked a perfect fourth frame.
Lake Giachelli and Lawes McCool had two hits each with one of McCool’s hits being a double. He also scored one run and drove in a pair.
Lessley and Nolan Marshall drove in two runs each as both had a single apiece. Sam Harris had an RBI double and scored a pair of runs, while Shane Houston Stephens had a single, RBI and scored one run. Jacob Bush had a base hit, and Matthew Jefcoat and Bryce Miller scored two runs each.
For Carroll (2-6), Logan Taylor and Dane Greenlee had a single each. Lofton Holly took the loss as went 21/3 innings, yielding 12 runs on nine hits, walking two and fanning one.
Pillow is at Cleveland Central Thursday with a JV game starting at 5 p.m. The varsity contest will follow at 7 p.m.
Carroll hosts Benton Academy Friday.
n Greenwood High: The Bulldogs gave up 14 runs in the first two innings as they fell 16-1 at Clarksdale Tuesday.
Clarksdale plated four runs in the first, 10 in the second and two in the third. GHS scored its lone run in the first inning.
DeAndre Smith had a single and scored the lone run, and Charles Brooks and Walter Ivory had a single each.
Greenwood (0-2) plays host to Clarksdale Thursday at 4 p.m.
n Amanda Elzy: The Panthers dropped to 2-3 overall with a 26-1 loss to visiting Yazoo County Tuesday.
Yazoo County scored 13 runs each in the first and second innings. Elzy scored its only run in the second.
Daylen Hayes had an RBI single, and Deangelou Weatherall suffered the loss on the mound.
Elzy played host to Leflore County Wednesday and is slated to visit Ruleville Friday.
