Morgan Mims had the type of season most players dream of for the Carroll Academy football team.
Mims, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior, played quarterback, running back and defensive back for the Rebels this past season during their 10-3 run, which included a 20-18 loss to Greenville St. Joe in the semifinals of the MAIS Class 3A playoffs.
For his efforts, Mims has been selected as the Most Valuable Player in District 2-3A by the league’s head coaches.
Mims was a threat each time he carried the ball for head coach Bo Milton. He finished with 2,024 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns on 191 carries. As a passer, he completed 34 of 69 attempts for 498 yards with six TDs and three interceptions.
He also had two receptions for 66 yards with two scores.
Earning All-Conference honors on offense for the Rebels are junior offensive linemen Cooper Beck (6-3, 270) and Hunter Brower (6-0, 215) and junior running back Hunter Bracken (5-6, 140), who had his season cut short because of a broken collarbone in Game 7. He finished with 633 yards and eight touchdowns on 95 carries.
Carroll had five players chosen to the first-team defense. They include senior linemen James Neill (6-5, 290) and Austin Smith (6-0, 215), senior linebackers Reese Fulton (6-4, 230) and Hogan Costilow (5-11, 230) and senior defensive back Logan Taylor (5-10, 175).
Receiving honorable mention for the Rebels were senior offensive lineman Hunter Huff, junior running back John Marc O’Cain, junior defensive back Braxton York and junior tight end Hunter Grantham.
Mims, Taylor, Fulton and Smith all played in the MAIS all-star football game last Friday at Jackson Prep. Milton served as a head coach for one of the teams.
