Carroll Academy’s girls and boys returned from the Christmas break with a sweep of their games at the Manchester Tournament Friday in Yazoo City.
The Lady Rebels won 40-39 over Park Place to improve to 9-9. Park Place led 14-5 after one but a 15-6 run by CA tied the game at 20-20 by halftime. The Lady Rebels led 30-29 after the third frame.
Sandy Tackett had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Carroll, and Gracie Turner had 11 points and five rebounds. Chloe Richardson had 10 points.
The Rebels claimed a 63-48 win over River Oaks to up their record to 8-5. CA led 8-5 after one, 22-12 at the half and 46-25 after the third period.
Logan Taylor pumped in 23 points for the Rebels, and Reese Fulton had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Brett Harper and Austin Smith had 13 points each.
Both Carroll teams play Clinton Christian today at the tournament.
• J.Z. George: The Jaguars got one in the win column as they beat Oak Hill Academy 70-52 at the East Webster Tournament Friday in Maben.
The Jaguars (5-8) broke open a 27-27 halftime game with a 15-9 run in the third and a 28-16 advantage in the fourth.
Kendrick Glover had 17, Deanthony McGlothin 13 and Rodney Catron 11 for J.Z. George.
The boys play today at 5:15 against either Philadelphia or Louisville.
The Lady Jags lost 55-28 to Oak Hill to fall to 2-12.
Tashanda Fleming led the Lady Jags with nine points, and Jasmine Newman had eight. Tyeshia Grant tacked on six points.
The Lady Jags play at 1:30 today against the loser of Friday’s game between Philadelphia and South Pontotoc.
In games from Thursday, East Webster swept J.Z. George as the girls won 58-28 and boys beat the Jags 58-44.
• Delta Streets Academy: The Lions dropped a 51-33 decision to the Royal Ambassadors from Jackson Friday at the Kirk Academy Tournament.
DSA (3-6) only trailed 24-21 at the half but was outscored 27-12 in the second half.
Jaylen Jackson had 11 for DSA, and DJ Alston and Qua Fuller had nine and eight, respectively.
The Lions play Kirk today at 5 p.m.
• Leflore County: The Lady Tigers and Tigers played for the third straight day as they took on MS Palmer for the second time in three days.
The Lady Tigers fought to the end as they dropped a 33-29 decision to the Lady Dragons to slip to 0-18 overall.
Palmer led 11-4 after one, 18-7 at the half and 24-14 after the third.
D’Mya Young led Leflore with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jakya Thompson had nine points.
The Tigers fell 64-54 to the Dragons, who led 17-7 after one, 29-25 at the half and 45-42 after the third.
Royce Jackson had 12, and Kayvon Dixon chipped in 11 for the Tigers.
Leflore returns Friday at home against Eupora.
