Carroll Academy fought to the bitter end against nemesis Winona Christian School as the Stars claimed a 48-46 double overtime win over the Rebels Friday night in Winona.
Winona Christian (7-0 overall, 4-0 in District 2-3A) sewed up the district title with the win. Carroll falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league.
“A disappointing loss. That’s about the only way to describe it,” said CA head coach Bo Milton.
Carroll trailed 24-8 at one point in the game, but rallied to lead 32-24. Winona tied the game at 32 to send it to overtime. The first extra period was tied at 40-40.

n Leflore County 28, West Tallahatchie 0 — The Tigers scored in every quarter en route to a homecoming win over the Choctaws Friday night in Itta Bena.
Da’Quarionne Jones hit Kerrick Ross from 22 yards out in the first frame. Maurice Edwards had the conversion to make it 8-0. In the second period, Edwards scored from a yard out, and Dekari Johnson had the 2-point run to make it 16-0 at the half.
In the third, Kwalique Swinney picked up a fumble, which was caused by Edwards, and raced 66 yards to the end zone for a 22-0 cushion. The final TD came in the fourth on a 28-yard pass from Jones to Ross.
Jones was 8 of 13 for 158 yards with one interception. Ross had three receptions for 60 yards, and Derrick Singleton had two for 40 yards. Swinney had one catch for 33 yards, and Johnson had two receptions for 25 yards.
Emanuel Stanley ran for 60 yards on eight carries, and Ross had 34 yards on three tries. Stanley led the Leflore defense with 10 tackles.
Masunte Haggie and Edwards had eight tackles apiece. Haggie had a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Edwards had a sack and forced a fumble. Swinney had six tackles and returned the fumble for a touchdown. Singleton also had an interception.
Leflore (3-3 overall, 3-1 in Region 3-1A) visits Simmons Thursday night.
n Amanda Elzy 8, Ruleville 0 — Senior Dephabian Fant recorded two straight sacks of the Ruleville quarterback to end the game and preserve the win Friday night in the Region 3-3A opener.
Elzy snapped a three-game slide to up its record to 4-3. Ruleville falls to 3-4 and 0-1.
Fant scored the lone touchdown of the night on an 86-yard run on the second play of the first period. Ladarius Davenport had the 2-point run.
Fant finished with 156 yards on 15 carries, and Howard Whitehead had 64 yards on five tries. Fant also caught one pass for 47 yards, and Davenport had one grab for 12 yards.
Terry Randle was 2 of 6 for 59 yards.
Tim Wilson had 16 total tackles, which included eight solos, eight assists and three stops for loss. La’Andre Pittman had 12 tackles (five for loss) and forced a fumble, and Smitdarious Wright had seven tackles and an interception.
Elzy has an open date next week.
n Walnut 28, J.Z. George 25 — The Jaguars put up a valiant effort in the fourth period as they rallied from a 28-7 deficit to only lose by three to the visiting Wildcats Friday night in North Carrollton.
Sophomore quarterback Jordun Normal ran for one score and threw two TD passes to lead the Jaguars, who fall to 3-4 overall. He connected with Jacob Johnson and D’Anthony McGlothan through the air. McGlothan also had a rushing touchdown.
J.Z. George plays at Region 2-2A foe East Webster Thursday.
n Delta Streets Academy 40, West Memphis (Ark.) 6 — The Lions finally broke through in the win column as they posted a victory over the Black Knights of West Memphis Friday night in West Memphis, Ark.
Delta Streets (1-6) jumped out to a 22-0 lead after the first period as Jalyn Lewis scored three touchdowns in the quarter. He scored on runs of 72 and 78 yards and caught a 47-yard pass from Jimmy Gibbs. He also ran for one 2-point conversion, and AJ McGhee threw to Terry Carpenter for the conversion.
In the second frame, McGhee hit Jaylen Prayer with a 36-yard scoring strike. The Lions led 28-6 at the half.
In the third, MJ Davenport had a 44-yard fumble recovery return, and Gibbs scored on a 55-yard run to end the scoring for the night.
Lewis finished with 185 yards on eight carries.
