Kwame Moore grew up playing basketball in Greenwood and earned a college scholarship after a successful career at Amanda Elzy High School.
Moore, a 1991 graduate of Elzy who lives in Clinton, is bringing the Mississippi All-Stars Basketball Camp to Greenwood.
The camp will run from 7:30 a.m. to noon July 18-20 at the Leflore County Civic Center. Campers will be instructed by several current and former NBA players, including Elzy coach Gerald Glass, who played four years in the NBA from the early to mid-1990s.
Moore, the camp director, says Los Angeles Lakers backup guard Trey Johnson, a former Jackson State standout, will also be an instructor. Moore is also waiting word from 15-year NBA veteran Erick Dampier, a former Mississippi State star center.
"We have an all-star class of instructors and will have a certified trainer on hand to help with any injuries," said Moore, who played basketball at Grambling State. "All of our instructors have Mississippi ties. We want the kids to know it's not about where you are from but how hard you work.
"There will also be special guest appearances and motivational speakers daily."
The camp is open to all boys an girls ages 10-17. The cost of the camp is $100 per kid.
All Campers should bring everything needed for workouts, including proper basketball shoes. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and a 5x7 photograph.
