J.Z. George junior Keiyhaun Wilks drove in five runs with a home run and single in leading the Jaguars to a 14-2 Region 2-2A win over Charleston Monday in North Carrollton.
Wilks, who plays first base, also scored three runs. The home run was an inside-the-park grand slam.
The Jaguars plated 11 runs in the first frame and three in the bottom of the third. The Tigers scored one run in the second and one in the third.
Alex Criss chipped in with three singles and a run scored, and Brandon McKenzie had two doubles and scored two runs. Alan Busby had a double and scored three times, and Zac Lowe had a single. Laike Shute got on base three times and scored twice.
J.Z. George (4-8, 1-6) is slated to visit Central Holmes Thursday and go to Charleston Friday.
- Pillow Academy: The slide continued for the Mustangs as they dropped a 15-0 decision to Bayou Academy Monday in Cleveland.
Bayou scored seven runs in the home half of the first inning. The Colts tacked on two in the second and six in the third. They outhit Pillow 9-3.
Drew Lamb (0-7) took the loss as he recorded only two outs, giving up seven runs on two hits, walking two and fanning one. Brock Makamson relieved Lamb and went 11/3 innings, allowing six runs on four hits, walking two and striking out two. Elliott Flowers got two outs in the third but not before giving up two runs on three hits.
JC Garrard had a double, and Nelson Hodges and Britt Reichle had a single each for Pillow (6-14 overall, 0-7 in District 1-5A).
Pillow and Bayou are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Coleman Field Thursday starting at 4 p.m.
- Carroll Academy: The Rebels played a pair of home games against District 2-4A foe Indianola Academy Monday, losing both games to fall to 3-2 in league play.
In Game 1, the Colonels came out on top 5-3 as they scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Logan started on the mound, going a strong 61/3 innings. He allowed just one run on four hits, walking three and fanning 11.
Ethan Mims (0-1) relieved Logan and gave up four runs on three walks. All four runs were earned. Lofton Holly came in and recorded the last two outs but not before walking three.
Mims had a triple and scored a run, and Tanner Costilow and Holly had a single and RBI each. Reid Blaylock, Drew Thomas and Reed Thomas had a single apiece.
In Game 2, Indianola took advantage of four errors in the field by the Rebels to prevail 6-3. IA scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. Carroll scored one run each in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Maddox Carpenter had a solo homer and a single, and Tyler Brooks had three singles and scored a run. Logan, Holly and Mims had a single each.
Thomas (1-2) went six innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, walking four and fanning two. Blaylock pitched the seventh, yielding one hit, one walk and striking out one.
Carroll (7-7 overall) goes to Indianola Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.
- Amanda Elzy: The Panthers dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in Region 3-3A play with a 23-0 three-inning loss to visiting Winona High School Monday.
The Tigers (10-4, 5-0) plated two runs in the first, 17 in the second and four in the third.
Andrew Moore took the loss on the mound for Elzy. Cody Randle had two singles, and Moore and Detrick Munford had a base hit each.
Elzy is slated to visit Simmons High School Wednesday and hosts Yazoo County Friday.
