Pillow Academy’s Madeline Mattox has been named to the Class 5A All-MAIS girls basketball team for the 2021-22 season.
Mattox, the Commonwealth’s Player of the Year, signed with Holmes Community College this past week. Mattox, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals a game for the Lady Mustangs.
Leake Academy’s Amanda Hatch has been the Coach of the Year, and Miriam Prince of Leake is the Player of the Year.
Mattox is joined by KayKay Seal of Bowling Green, Madyson Maw of Central Hinds, Anne Brantley Warren of Brookhaven, Morgan Freeny of Leake, Bailey Devaul of Bowling Green and Mackenzie Hankins of Central Hinds.
Greenville Christian School’s DeAndre “DJ” Smith has been named the Class 3A boys Player of the Year.
The former Greenwood High product led the Saints to a state title this past season, their second in a row in basketball.
Smith’s coach, Logan Collins, is the Class 3A Coach of the Year. Four of his teammates, KD Rancifer, Daishun Scott, Will Riley and Josiah Claiborne, are part of the All-MAIS team for 3A boys.
