The semifinals for the MAIS Class 5A State Tournament are set for Friday at Pillow Academy’s Stribling Gymnasium.
The girls will get the day started at 1 p.m. as the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars, the top seed from the North, take on rival Leake Academy in the first semifinal game. Leake is the third seed from the North.
Simpson advanced with a 67-50 victory over Bowling Green Wednesday. Leake got the best of Copiah Academy 48-35 Tuesday.
The second semifinal game pits the Lady Mustangs of Pillow (25-6) against South No. 1 Brookhaven Academy immediately following the first game.
Pillow knocked off Madison St. Joe 48-39 Tuesday, while Brookhaven defeated Heritage Academy 58-30 Wednesday night.
The girls consolation and championship games are Saturday at 1 and 2:15 p.m. Only the top three advance to the Overall Tournament next week.
The boys tournament is also in the semifinal round. Simpson Academy, which defeated Adams County Christian School 70-59 Wednesday, will take on Madison St. Joe at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal contest.
Madison St. Joe slipped past Heritage Academy 38-36 Wednesday night.
The second semifinal game has South No. 1 Oak Forest (La.) taking on Copiah Academy, the South No. 3 seed. Oak Forest topped Leake Academy 63-38 Tuesday, while Copiah beat Magnolia Heights 61-57, also Tuesday. The game will start immediately following the first contest.
The boys consolation and championship games will start at 6 and 7:15 p.m. Saturday with the top three teams advancing to the Overall Tournament.
