Leflore County scored in a variety of ways en route to a 28-0 Region 4-2A win over O’Bannon High School Friday night in Itta Bena.
The Tigers, who move to 4-1 overall, led 8-0 after the first period as senior safety Dante Kelly intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards for a score. Dezmond Ray had the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead after one.
In the second frame, Ray scored from five yards out and tacked on the 2-pointer for a 16-0 lead. Quarterback Kyle Moore hit Donellius Griggs from 23 yards out to give the home team a 22-0 cushion at the half.
In the third frame, Demarkavius Sims blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to put Leflore up 28-0 headed to the fourth.
Ray finished with 72 yards on six carries, and Moore was 6-of-12 for 88 yards.
Kelly and Taahir Banks led the defense with 12 tackles each. Kelly had the interception and two sacks, and Banks had three sacks.
Maurice Edwards and D’Rion Freeman had eight tackles each. Edwards had two sacks, and Freeman had a fumble recovery.
-J.Z. George 14, Riverside 6 — The Jaguars went on the road Friday night and picked up the win over the Bulldogs in Avon.
Shemarion Applewhite scored both touchdowns for the Jags, who improve to 4-1 overall. Jeremiah Williams had the 2-point conversion.
J.Z. George (4-1) entertains Leflore County next week.
-Amanda Elzy 13, Ruleville 6 — In a defensive battle, the Panthers won their Region 3-3A opener Friday night.
Don Powell scored from six yards out, and Jevarion Glover hit Jordan Smith with a 17-yard TD pass for the Panthers (3-3).
Glover ran for 154 yards on 14 carries and was 12-of-15 passing for 109 yards. Powell had 31 yards on four tries, and he caught four passes for 18 yards.
Eldred Horton had 12 total tackles (nine solos), and Devontae Bronson had 11 tackles (nine solos). Altorean Brown had three solos and five assists, and Detrick Munford had three solos and two assists.
