Pillow Academy’s Dia Chawla lost in the finals of the MAIS State 5A individual tournament at the Ridgeland Tennis Center Thursday.
Chawla lost 6-3, 6-1 to Maggie Savell of Park Place Christian Academy in girls No. 1 singles.
She opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 win over A. Terrazas of Madison St. Joe.
Savell beat Macie Curtis of Central Hinds in her first match.
In girls No. 2 singles, Avery McDaniel dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Mallory Nations of Brookhaven Academy.
Greenwood High: The five players representing Greenwood High School at the State 4A individual tournament were all eliminated in first-round matches Wednesday in Oxford.
In girls singles, Arlonda Henderson had the closest match as she lost 6-2, 6-4 to New Albany’s Brenah Flint.
In girls doubles, Janyia Henderson and Kendall Smith dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to New Albany’s Eva Aldridge and Caurie Clayton.
In mixed doubles, Davianna Brent and David Kelly fell 6-0, 6-0 to Stone High’s Thomas Sumrall and Mary Lott.
