The Amanda Elzy boys basketball team picked up its third win of the season with a 53-34 decision over Palmer High School Tuesday night in Marks.
The Panthers (3-7) only led 14-12 after the first period but turned up the heat over the next two quarters with runs of 15-5 and 19-9 for a 48-26 lead headed to the final frame.
Jontavious Neal had 13 points, and Pervcontah Stancil tacked on 11 for Elzy. Detrick Munford and Jacoreyun Miller had seven points apiece.
In the girls game, Palmer claimed a 42-31 win as it led 18-4 the first period, 23-8 at the half and 25-15 after the third period.
Kennedy Johnson led the Lady Panthers (2-8) with 16 points. Olivia Wilson had six.
Elzy hosts Leland on Friday before entertaining crosstown rival Greenwood High on Saturday at noon.
- Leflore County: The Tigers won their second in a row with a 45-42 triumph over Simmons High School Tuesday in Itta Bena.
Leflore (3-10) led 14-7 after one, 21-16 at the half and 32-24 after the third frame.
Kyle Moore led Leflore with nine points. Javorius Sherrod had eight, and Kamari Buck and Keveunte Parker tacked on seven each.
In the girls game, Simmons won 79-21 to drop Leflore to 4-8.
Monica Coleman had 11 points for the Lady Tigers.
Leflore doesn’t return until Jan. 4 at Coahoma County.
