- GHS loses to Senatobia: The Bulldogs’ contest against the Warriors — the top team in their district — also came down to a tiebreaker in the deciding match, but GHS couldn’t hang on at No. 2 boys doubles in a 4-3 defeat.
The No. 2 boys doubles duo of Gregory McLaurin and Trevor Russell battled but couldn’t complete a comeback in a 3-6, 6-7 (7-4) loss.
“I have a newcomer, Trevor Russell, he’s been awesome in his first year,” GHS tennis coach Tammie Holmes said of Russell, a freshman. “He played so hard tonight he slid on the court diving for a ball and put it in play, and he won the point."
The Bulldogs got victories from their top singles players, Luisha Stanley and Arlonda Henderson, who each won in straight sets. Janiyah Henderson and Kendall Smith also pulled off a 6-4, 7-5 win in the top girls doubles matchup.
GHS visits Gentry on Thursday before wrapping up the regular season at Clarksdale on Friday.
