Carroll Academy pulled off a big sweep of District 2-4A foe Central Holmes Christian School Monday in Lexington.
The Rebels (9-7, 5-2) won the first game 13-4 as they outhit the Trojans 15-5. Carroll plated four runs each in the first and sixth frames, two in the second and three in the third. Central Holmes scored three in the first and one in the fifth.
Ryan Logan (2-2) worked all seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits, walking five and striking out 13. Logan also did his part at the plate as he went 4-for-5 with two singles, two doubles and drove in four runs.
Maddox Carpenter had two singles, a double, drove in one run and scored three times. Tyler Brooks had a single, double and scored three runs, and Lofton Holly had a single, double, scored once and drove in two runs.
Reid Blaylock had an RBI double, and Drew Thomas had a double and scored one run. Hayes White had a double, RBI and scored a run, and Ethan Mims had a single, scored twice and drove in a run.
In the second game, Carroll won 12-1 by scoring one run in the first and fifth innings, seven in the second and three in the third. Central Holmes tallied one run in the third.
Drew Thomas (2-2) got the win as he went the last four innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out three.
The Rebels had eight hits as Holly had two doubles, scored two runs and drove in three. Carpenter had two singles and scored twice, and Logan had a double, scored twice and drove in one run. White tacked on a single, RBI and scored a run.
Thomas had an RBI single, and Ethan Mims had a single and scored a run. Tanner Costilow scored two runs and drove in one.
Carroll played host to Central Holmes Tuesday.
- J.Z. George: The Jaguars recorded two Region 2-2A wins Monday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Leflore County in North Carrollton.
The Jaguars (7-9 overall, 4-6 in region) won the first game 11-8 as Brandon McKenzie (6-3) worked seven innings, striking out four.
Alan Busby had three singles, a double, drove in two runs and stole two bases. Keiyhaun Wilks had two singles and five RBIs, and Kevin Favela had two singles and drove in two runs. Laike Shute had a double and two RBIs, and Colten Acy had a single.
D’rion Freeman had three singles for Leflore (2-9, 2-6). Dequarionne Jones had two triples, and Dekari Johnson had a single and double. Zabian Mitchell had a double, and Kamari Buck had a single.
In the second game, J.Z. George got a big game from Wilks on the mound and at the plate. Wilks (1-5) got his first win as he went four innings, striking out four. At the plate, he drove in three runs with two singles and a double.
Charlie Wilson had a single, double and three RBIs, and Busby had a single and triple. McKenzie and Acy had two singles each. Acy also scored two runs. Favela had a double, and Shute had two RBIs and a single. Criss had a single and scored twice.
Jones led Leflore with a single and triple, and Freeman had two singles. Maurice Edwards had a double, and Buck and Mitchell had a single apiece.
J.Z. George plays at Riverside on Tuesday. They start the 2A playoffs on April 22 against East Union, the top seed from Region 1.
- Amanda Elzy: The Panthers slipped to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in Region 3-3A play as they lost 14-2 at Winona High School Monday.
The Tigers blew open a tight 5-2 game with a six-run third. They tacked on three runs in the fourth. The Panthers plated both of their runs in the second frame.
Quay Hayes had an RBI double, and Darius Sims had an RBI single. Martize Lott had a single and scored a run, and TJ Randle had a single.
Hayes worked 31/3 innings, allowing all 14 runs on 11 hits, walking three and fanning one.
Elzy is slated to visit Ruleville Thursday.
- Greenwood High: The Bulldogs dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in Region 3-4A with a 15-0 setback at Clarksdale High School Monday.
Greenwood is slated to visit Gentry on Tuesday to close out the season.
