The Amanda Elzy and Leflore County baseball teams picked up wins on the diamond Tuesday in prep baseball action.
The Panthers broke open a tight game after the first inning to beat Region 3-3A foe Ruleville 26-16 at Elzy’s field. Both teams scored 14 runs each in the first inning, and the Panthers (2-5, 1-3) tacked on six runs each in the second and third frames. Ruleville scored a run each in the second and third innings.
Kaheim Outlaw, the second Elzy pitcher, got the win, going 1 1/3 innings. He struck out two. Andrew Moore pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out three.
Terry Randle had a triple and scored three runs, and Jaquavius Hayes had a triple and scored four runs. Outlaw had a double and scored four times, and Detrick Munford had a base hit and scored four runs.
Martez Lott had a single and scored three times, and Moore had a single and scored twice. Cody Randle had a single.
Elzy is slated to visit Leflore County Thursday, weather permitting.
- Leflore County baseball: The Tigers picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Charleston High School 18-3 in Itta Bena.
Leflore (1-5) scored six runs in the first, one in the second, third and fifth, and nine in the fourth. Charleston tallied one in the first and two in the third.
Dekari Johnson got the win on the mound. Dequarionne Jones worked the final two innings.
D’rion Freeman had three singles, and Johnson had a single and triple. D’morion Freeman, Maurice Edwards and Kamari Buck had a double each, and Jones, Zacchaeus Banks and Nathaniel Riley had a single apiece.
Leflore is slated to go to Charleston Friday.
- Greenwood High baseball: The Bulldogs dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in Region 3-4A play with a 17-0 two-inning loss to visiting Yazoo City Tuesday.
Kaleb Cotton took the loss on the mound. GHS had no hits.
Greenwood is at Yazoo City Friday.
- Pillow Academy golf: The Mustangs played in a tournament at the Panola Country Club Monday in Batesville. The event was hosted by North Delta School.
Bradley Lovelady had a low round of 92 for Pillow, and Andrew Brock was close behind with a 95. Britt Reichle shot a 99, and Rachel Singleton shot a 102. Jacob Lawes finished with a 106, and Clayton Goss had a 110.
Pillow will compete in a match Monday in Cleveland, which will be hosted by Bayou Academy.
- Greenwood softball: The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 25-4 Region 3-4A decision to Gentry High School Monday in Indianola.
Savannah Mitchell had a double, and Shaniyah Hooper had a single for GHS (1-3 overall, 0-2 in district). The Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the first and three in the third. Gentry plated 10 in the first and 15 in the second.
- Amanda Elzy softball: The Lady Panthers gave up 13 runs in the top of the third frame as they fell 20-5 to visiting Winona High School in a Region 3-3A contest Monday.
Winona (6-7, 4-0) tacked on one run in the first, four in the second and two in the fourth. Elzy scored one run each in the second and fourth innings, and three in the third.
Mariyah Prayer took the loss in the circle, allowing all 20 runs on 19 hits, walking two and striking out seven. The Elzy defense made seven errors.
Caleigh Phillips had two singles, and Selonia Groves and Avril Silas had a single each for Elzy (4-3, 0-3).
Elzy, which played at Winona Tuesday, goes to Humphreys County Thursday.
- J.Z. George softball: The Lady Jaguars dropped a 18-0 decision to visiting Eupora Monday in a Region 2-2A contest.
The Lady Jags fall to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in district.
J.Z. George, which played Calhoun City Tuesday, goes to Bruce Friday.
