Get ready to look for some holiday bargains; the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Open House will kick off Thursday.
“It’s a great time to start doing your Christmas shopping,” said Beth Stevens, the chamber’s executive director.
Participating stores and restaurants will be open late Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., offering special deals, discounts and holiday cheer. There will be live music, and Santa Claus will walk throughout downtown, Stevens said.
Carriage rides will be offered Thursday evening in 20-minute increments. Those interested can reserve a ticket at the tent at the corner of Howard and Washington streets.
The open house will continue Friday and Saturday during normal business hours.
New this year is holiday bingo. At any of the participating stores and restaurants, shoppers can pick up bingo cards. One type of card is offered for retailers, and another is offered for dining.
Shoppers have until Dec. 13 to complete their bingo cards by shopping and dining at any of the participating locations and marking off tiles.
After filling up a row, shoppers can drop off their cards at any participating retailer or at the chamber to be entered into a drawing to win one of two $100 Chamber Bucks shopping sprees.
A completed card will be entered for a drawing to win one $250 Chamber Bucks shopping spree.
The purpose of the open house, in addition to kicking off the holiday shopping season, is to support the local businesses, Stevens said.
“I think a lot of times we take for granted the great amenities we have in our town,” she said of Greenwood’s “fabulous shops and restaurants.”
“When you spend money in the community, it goes back to the community,” she said.
