Greenwood’s Stars and Stripes Festival is annual again after having skipped a year last summer because of the pandemic.
The 2021 date is Thursday, June 24. That’s when the community will gather in the arboretum between the city’s central Yazoo River bridges for the free-to-attend, family-friendly festival that celebrates the nation’s birth.
“We are working on the entertainment and looking for food vendors,” said Beth Stevens, executive director of the event’s sponsor, the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
And, she said, “The fireworks are ordered.” The annual boat parade on the Yazoo is being planned, too.
The decision to have the festival was made in consultation with Mayor Carolyn McAdams, she said.
“I have been talking to the mayor for the last few weeks,” she explained. They considered the current situation with COVID-19 and decided that “by the end of June, there would be no reason not to have the festival.”
Stevens continued, “It is a great community event that the community needs to have.”
