North Greenwood Baptist Church will host an event next February in which those with special needs can be a part of a special prom night experience.
The church and other host sites are partnering with the Tim Tebow Foundation in celebrating people with special needs simultaneously on Feb. 11 in an event called “Night to Shine.”
According to a press release by the church, every guest will enter on a red carpet with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi.
Guests will receive the “royal treatment,” including hair and makeup stations, shoe-shining areas, limousine rides, a catered dinner and much more. At the end of the event, each guest will be crowned a king or queen.
“Night to Shine” launched in 2015 with 44 host churches and 15,000 volunteers honoring more than 7,000 prom kings and queens.
As sponsor of “Night to Shine,” the Tim Tebow Foundation will provide each host church with an official planning manual with personalized guidance and support from a Tim Tebow Foundation staff member, access to planning resources and the opportunity to apply for grants that will help to fund the event for each host site.
“‘Night to Shine’ is my favorite event of the year, but not just because we get to throw the biggest, best party for people with special needs in the world,” said foundation founder Tim Tebow, a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in college who is trying to revive his NFL career as a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“It’s my favorite because we get to remind people who are often overlooked or forgotten that their life has purpose and that they are loved.”
The Rev. Dr. Jim Phillips, pastor of North Greenwood Baptist, said he is asking everyone who is interested in being a part of the “Night to Shine” event or has questions about it to attend an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug.12 in the church’s fellowship hall at 615 Grand Blvd.
Phillips said he will also appear before the Greenwood City Council at its Tuesday meeting to show a “Night to Shine” promotional video and to ask for the city’s help in supporting the event.
“At this point, I’m just looking for those who are interested in watching the promo video of what one of these events looks like and how they might participate and help us to make this a big event in Greenwood,” he said.
The promotional video may be found on YouTube by searching for “Night to Shine 2020.” More information also is available at www.timtebowfoundation.org/night-to-shine.
