At least 55 students and three staff members at schools in Carroll and Leflore counties had to quarantine last week after exposure to COVID-19, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s latest aggregate school COVID-19 report, released this week.
At least 12 students at these schools and at least one staff member at Greenwood High School tested positive for COVID-19 during the week of Sept. 20-24, according to the report.
According to the state Department of Health’s past school COVID-19 reports, the number of local area students who quarantined last week due to exposure has been the lowest since the start of this fall semester.
The highest number of students who have had to quarantine was 462 during the week of Aug. 30 to Sept. 3; the highest number of staff who have had to quartine was 41, which occurred during the week of Aug. 9-13 and again Aug. 23-27.
The numbers do not represent a full accounting for students and staff at schools throughout Carroll and Leflore counties since four private schools — Carroll Academy, Delta Streets Academy, Leflore Christian School and Pillow Academy — have not had their COVID-19 numbers appear in any of the state Department of Health’s reports since the start of this semester.
