The Greenwood City Council unanimously approved a budget for the upcoming fiscal year Tuesday.
The property tax rate will rise by 4%, and the $13.9 million general fund budget itself will be 4% higher than current year’s figure.
The tax rate will increase from 52.26 mills to 54.26 mills. A mill is equal to $1 of tax for each $1,000 of assessed value.
At the adopted rate, the taxes on a $100,000 owner-occupied home will go up by $16 a year; on a $30,000 automobile, the increase will be $18.
Also Tuesday, Mayor Carolyn McAdams gave an update on C Spire and the installation and production of fiber optic cables in the city. “In about two weeks or so, they will start applying for permits,” McAdams said.
McAdams said a representative of C Spire told her the process of bringing its broadband internet service to Greenwood has been slowed because the coronavirus pandemic has affected staffing and construction.
