Pillow Academy’s tennis team came away with three district championships during Thursday’s playoff matches in Cleveland.
No. 2 girls singles Avery McDaniel and top boys singles player Noah Lary beat their Bayou counterparts, and the No. 2 girls doubles duo of Anne Craig Melton and Caroline Brock earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory to round out a solid afternoon for the Mustangs.
All seven girls won their semifinal matches to earn spots in next Tuesday’s North State tournament at Greenville Country Club.
In mixed doubles action, seventh grader Izzy Hodges subbed in for the injured Elizabeth Powers and made it to the finals along with partner Sumner Tackett, ultimately losing 6-4, 6-2 to Bayou.
The rest of Pillow’s boys players — Druvh Patel, Arnav Thakur, William Brown, Richard McQueen and Walker Saia — suffered season-ending losses in the semifinals.
