The post offices in Greenwood and the surrounding area have resumed only limited mail service Thursday.
The Commonwealth has been told that businesses and individuals with post office boxes will receive their mail, but carriers are not being sent out for the third straight day in many areas because of slick roads and walkways.
The Greenwood post office is attempting delivery on five of its 13 city routes but none of the five rural routes it handles.
“We’re glad they are making some deliveries, but we don’t really understand why it’s not more,” Tim Kalich, the Commonwealth’s editor and publisher, said Thursday. “Most of the roads at least in Greenwood seemed pretty passable to us by late this morning, but we don’t control the postal service’s decisions. We just hope they will return to full service by Friday.”
The postal interruptions mean that once service is fully restored, many Commonwealth subscribers will get a bundle of papers in their mailboxes — all of the issues since Tuesday.
In the meantime, the paper’s E-edition has been made fully accessible to all visitors, whether registered or not.
To access the E-edition, go to the Commonwealth’s website, www.gwcommonwealth.com, and click on the thumbnail of Thursday’s front page.
