Christmas in the Delta will come a little early this year as the Locus Benedictus retreat center hosts Ray Mattox and Kenny Williams for a Christmas concert.
The event is planned for Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and is free for the public.
“This has been planned for months,” retreat director Magdalene Abraham said.
“Ray Mattox was kind enough to inquire about the ministries of Locus Benedictus. Many people don’t know it exists and the services we offer, and in the process of me explaining that, he said, ‘We’d love to put on a Christmas concert.’”
Mattox and Williams will play both Christian and secular Christmas tunes, Abraham said.
“We have the best volunteers on the planet,” she added. The event is all volunteer organized, and should be a “lighthearted time of fellowship and togetherness.”
She said it is the generosity of Mattox and Williams that makes the event special. “They share their gifts of voice and piano. They do all types of events and generously give of themselves, and they also have full-time jobs,” she explained.
The performance is part of the retreat center’s ministry, which seeks to bring people in the community together in a positive way and make a difference in the lives of Delta residents.
“I think most people in the community are looking for some lightness and relaxation and time to reflect on the powerful meaning of Christmas and their friends and family,” Abraham said.
