The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District did not submit a report to the Mississippi State Department of Education that is required in order for it to get funds from the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP), the district’s chief of finance told the school board Thursday.
MAEP is a formula the state uses to apportion money to districts. According to state law, the state superintendent of education may withhold MAEP funds from a district if it does not submit the required reports by the due dates.
Kelia Washington, the chief of finance, said she was informed of this last week.
The district was supposed to submit its report to the state Dec. 1, Washington said.
She said the district could lose a lot of money, though she added that the state Legislature is still in session and has not determined state funding for districts.
Samantha Milton, the board’s president, asked how the district missed the deadline and who was responsible for submitting the report.
Washington said she wasn’t sure because submitting the report has never fallen under her job duties.
She did say that superintendents generally file their reports to the state superintendent of education.
The board took no action.
