Pillow Academy pulled away from archrival Washington School in the third period en route to a 42-7 District 1-5A homecoming victory over the Generals Friday night at Bill Davis Field.
Pillow started senior Dayne Sanford at quarterback for the first period but went back to its conventional setup with Drew Lamb under center and Sanford at running back in the second quarter.
The game was scoreless for the first quarter, but Pillow went up 14-7 at the half. A 21-0 outburst in the third period gave the Mustangs a 35-7 cushion headed to the fourth.
Sanford finished with 173 yards rushing on 17 carries and three touchdowns. He was 3-of-5 passing for 34 yards and had one reception for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Charlie Robbins went over the 100-yard mark as he finished with 119 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Drew Lamb was 5-of-7 for 86 yards with one TD. John Heston Powers had five receptions for 49 yards.
The Mustangs’ sixth TD of the night came on a 50-yard fumble return by Andrew Brock in the third period.
Lawson Harvey booted six extra points.
Elliott Flowers and Hayes Bennett had seven tackles each, and Powers finished with six stops.
The Mustangs, who move to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the district, play host to Heritage Academy next week to end the regular season. The playoffs begin on Oct. 28.
-Carroll Academy 10, Lee Academy 7 — The Rebels held on for a battle-tested road win over the Colts Friday night in Clarksdale.
Carroll (5-4 overall) led 7-0 after the first period and 10-0 after the third quarter. Lee scored its lone TD with 30 seconds to go in the fourth, and the Rebels were able to recover the onside kick.
Mathis and Noah Beck tallied eight tackles and an interception apiece.
Nathan Matthews and Reid Blaylock had seven tackles each, and Maddox Carpenter had six stops.
Brennan Blaylock had an interception, and Drake Dunn had a fumble recovery.
CA hosts Winston Friday.
-Delta Streets 46, Rossville 24 — Freshman running back Daniel Crain rumbled for 154 yards on 18 carries in the Lions’ District 1-3A win at Rossville Christian Friday night.
Crain scored one touchdown for DSA, which is now 2-7 overall and 1-0 in league play as it visits league foe Greenville Christian next week.
Anthony Armstead tacked on 52 yards and two touchdowns on four carries. He had five tackles, two sacks and a tackle for loss.
Moe Washington had a TD and 15 yards on three tries. He also had four tackles on defense, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Malique Davenport was 2-of-5 for 40 yards and a score. Draper Aldridge had both receptions, and he threw a 2-point pass to Jermorris Pilcher.
