The J.Z. George baseball team closed out its 2021 season Thursday with a pair of games against Region 2-2A foe Eupora High School.
The visiting Eagles claimed both games, winning the first contest 14-2 and taking the second game 18-3. The Jaguars end their season at 2-13 overall and 0-8 in region play.
“This group worked hard to get better this season after not playing but one game last year,” said coach Michael “Slick” Hargett. “The wins didn’t come, but they have played hard all season long.”
In the first contest, Eupora tallied seven runs in the first, two in the second and five in the third. J.Z. George scored two in the third.
Michael Bankston took the loss as he went all three innings, allowing 14 runs on 10 hits, hitting three batters and walking seven. He had a single, scored a run and drove in one run at the plate.
Nathan Carpenter had an RBI single, and Lake Shute, Alan Busby, Wil’Tavious Williams, Jacob Johnson and Brandon McKenzie had a single each.
In the second game, the Eagles plated four runs in the first and seven each in the third and fourth frames. The Jaguars tallied two in the first and one in the third.
McKenzie took the loss as went three-plus innings, surrendering 13 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits, walking three and fanning two. Keiyhaun Wilks and Johnson worked the fourth inning. Wilks allowed five runs on four hits, walking three.
McKenzie had a single and two RBIs, and Carpenter had an RBI single. Johnson scored two runs, and Williams had a single.
