A suspect stole a car in Greenwood and was chased through Leflore County on Friday evening, according to authorities.
Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said officers from his department, the Greenwood Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol pursued the suspect until he traveled down Interstate 55.
Jackson television station WAPT reported that the suspect shot at a Leflore County deputy. Banks said the suspect brandished a weapon but no shots were fired at his deputies.
Greenwood Police Chief Terrence Craft said that his officers were not shot at either.
Canton Police Chief Otha Brown told WAPT that the man was pursued into Canton, jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot, last seen outside a Burger King on West Peace Street.
The suspect’s whereabouts were still unknown Wednesday.
