A major storm system came and went on Tuesday, mostly sparing Leflore County along the way.
Fred Randle, the county’s emergency management director, said the only major incident was damage to the gas station on U.S. 82 near the Greenwood oil mill. The canopy over the gas station’s fuel pumps caved in, but the pumps and the building housing the convenience store remained intact.
Ken Strachan, the emergency management director in Carroll County, also said the storm passed through without serious incident, with no injuries or fatalities reported.
One incident of note was a tree that came down on Mulberry Street, with sparks coming from a nearby transformer being reported.
Strachan said the Carroll County Board of Supervisors had on Monday approved an emergency declaration in case of severe damage, but he said there is not enough damage to file for assistance from the state.
Mayor Ann Polk of Tchula confirmed large hail stones had hit the town, including some at City Hall, but she said she didn’t believe that anything severe happened and she hadn’t received any reports of damages.
