Amelia Marshall Sams and Samuel Bartholomew Whittington exchanged vows at 5 p.m. Feb. 26, 2011, at Universalist National Memorial Church in Washington, D.C.
The Rev. Vicki Kemper of Amherst, Mass., officiated at the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Sandra and Larry Sams of Greenwood.
She is the granddaughter of William and Mary Lou Burk of Rossville, Ga., and the late John and Elizabeth Sams of Bloomfield, Ky.
The groom is the son of Mary Watters and Tom and Amy Whittington of Mount Rainier, Md.
He is the grandson of Thomas and Regina Whittington of Westlake, Calif., and the late Raymond and Ruth Watters of Princeton, W. Va.
Rachel Sams of Albuquerque, N.M., sister of the bride, served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Sydney Carlock of Washington, D.C., and Johanna Krouk of Boston.
Matthew Whittington of New York, N.Y., brother of the groom, served as best man.
Groomsmen were Tim McLaughlin of Greensboro, N.C., and John Manolatos of Washington, D.C.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Josephine Butler Parks Center.
On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Johnny's Half Shell on Capitol Hill.
After a trip to Mississippi to visit the bride's parents and a honeymoon in New Orleans, the couple is at home in Washington, D.C.
The bride is assistant to the EVP of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the groom is an assistant sous chef at Cashion's Eat Place.
They are both graduates of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
