Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stephen Upshaw of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Patterson Jr. of Itta Bena announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Kathryn Patterson, to Phillip Andrew Pinkston.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Andrew Pinkston III of Greenwood.
He is the grandson of Mrs. Dorothy Cox Switzer and Mr. Jess Andrew Pinkston Jr. of Greenwood and the late Sara Gory McAdoo.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Kathryn Brewer Black of Collierville, Tenn., and Mr. Mickey LeRoy Black of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boyd Patterson Sr. of Itta Bena.
Miss Patterson is a 2004 honor graduate of Pillow Academy and a 2009 honor graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
While at the University of Mississippi, Miss Patterson was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She made her debut with the Southern Debutante Assembly in December 2005, and she was the 2008 Queen of Cotton at the annual Greenwood Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball.
She is employed by Greenwood Leflore Hospital as a registered nurse.
Mr. Pinkston is a 1996 graduate of Pillow Academy and a 2001 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
In 2005, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Delta State University.
Mr. Pinkston earned an Associate of Applied Science degree with an emphasis on culinary arts technology in 2010 from Mississippi Delta Community College.
He is employed by Lusco’s, his family’s restaurant.
The couple will exchange vows at 4 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2012, at the Royal Bahamian in Nassau, Bahamas
