Mr. and Mrs. John Kulavic III of Atlanta announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Kristen Marie, to Jacob Ragsdale Whelan of Charleston, S.C.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Novak and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kulavic II.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William Michael Whelan of Greenwood.
He is the grandson of the late Rev. and Mrs. John Pennington Ragsdale, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Albert Whelan.
Miss Kulavic is a 2001 graduate of St. Pius X High School and a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She is a 2007 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where she earned her master’s degree in secondary education.
Miss Kulavic was a teacher, coach and campus minister at St. Joseph Catholic School in Madison from 2005 to 2011.
She is employed by the Charleston Catholic School in Charleston, S.C.
Dr. Whelan is a 2002 graduate of Pillow Academy and a 2006 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a bachelor’s degree in history.
He is a 2010 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
While at Ole Miss, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society in 2005.
Dr. Whelan is in his second year of residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C.
The couple will exchange vows at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson.
