Dr. Eddie and Shirley Carthan of Tchula announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Neketa G. Carthan of Fort Myers, Fla., to Gavin Watson.
The bride-elect attended S.V. Marshall High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army as a reservist.
Miss Carthan received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in English from Jackson State University.
She received an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Miss Carthan is the assistant principal at Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts. She is also an adjunct instructor at Argosy University.
She is seeking a doctoral degree in organizational leadership.
Miss Carthan is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is an avid runner who participates in 5K races and half marathons.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Gurnos and Geraldine Watson of Lakeland, Fla.
He is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he majored in psychology.
He is employed as an athletic trainer and hopes to one day own his own studio gym.
The couple will exchange vows at 5 p.m. on June 30, 2012, at Wesley Chapel in Jackson.
They will honeymoon in St. Lucia.
