Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Pierce Carter of Senatobia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Courtney Jane, to Dr. Benjamin Thomas Boatright.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fleming Boatright of Oxford.
He is the grandson of Mrs. Hubert Lee Jones Sr. of Oxford and the late Hubert Lee Jones Sr., and Earl Boatright of Oxford and the late Elwanda Fleming Boatright.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Short of Sardis, the late Billy Joe Baker and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Carter Jr.
Miss Carter is a graduate of Pillow Academy. She attended Mississippi State University, where she majored in pre-nursing.
She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, where she served as the vice president of new member education for the sorority and was also elected to the Greek Hall of Fame. Miss Carter was a member of the Student Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Order of Omega and Campus Crusade for Christ.
She graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a bachelor's degree in nursing. There she served as president of her class and was named 2006 Student of the Year at UMC.
She is currently pursuing a master's degree in nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and is employed at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital as a staff nurse.
A graduate of Oxford High School, Mr. Boatright attended the University of Mississippi, where he graduated magna cum laude with bachelor's degrees in biology and biochemistry.
While at Ole Miss, he was a member of the Ole Miss Rebel football team and Sigma Nu Fraternity. A member of several undergraduate honor societies and Campus Crusade for Christ at Ole Miss, he was also inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies and received multi-year All-SEC Academic Honors.
The prospective bridegroom graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical School and is currently completing his internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
He has been selected to the fellowship program in gastroenterology at UMC and will begin training in this medical specialty upon completion of his residency.
The couple will exchange vows at 6 p.m. Aug. 7, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Senatobia.
All family and friends are invited to attend.
After a honeymoon in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the couple will reside in Brandon.
