Mr. and Mrs. Sam Grady Atkins Jr. of Amory announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Whitney Elizabeth Atkins of Amory, to John Russell McPherson of Inverness.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Preston Arringon of Inverness and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Russell McPherson of Leland.
He is the grandson of Henrietta McCay of Canton, Sarah Swanzy of Greenwood and the late Don McPherson.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Boyd of Fulton and the late Shirley Boyd and Helen Atkins of Amory and the late Sam Grady Atkins Sr.
Miss Atkins is a graduate of Amory High School and a 2010 graduate of Bevill State Community College, where she received an associate's degree in nursing.
She is employed by River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, where she is a registered nurse.
Miss Atkins is a member of Delta Gamma sorority.
Mr. McPherson is a 2004 graduate of Indianola Academy and a 2008 graduate of Millsaps College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
He is in his third year of medical school at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Mr. McPherson is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
The couple will exchange vows at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 2010, at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point.
