Ms. Wanda Harper Clark and Mr. Travis H. Clark Jr. of Greenwood are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Avent Meriwether Clark of Starkville, to John Michael VanHorn, also of Starkville.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wayne VanHorn of Winona. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mallie Earl Daves and the late Mr. Daves and Mr. and Mrs. John Leigh VanHorn, all of Winona.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Maxie Allen Harper of Greenwood and the late Mr. and Mrs. Travis H. Clark of Morgan City.
Miss Clark is a 2005 graduate of Pillow Academy and a 2011 graduate of Mississippi State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communication. While at MSU, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, was elected sophomore maid in the 2006 Homecoming Court, and held the positions of director of Student Activities and chief of staff of the MSU Student Association. She was a recipient of the Mississippi State University Spirit of State Award.
Miss Clark received a Master of Science degree in counselor education from MSU in 2013. In graduate school, she served as the president of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. She is employed as the marketing and communications coordinator for the Department of Housing and Residence Life at Mississippi State. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Starkville and a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Starkville.
Mr. VanHorn is a 2006 graduate of Winona High School and a 2010 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication. At MSU, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received a Master of Science degree in counselor education from MSU in 2012 and began his higher education career at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with University Housing. He is employed as the assistant director for Fraternity and Sorority Life at Mississippi State and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Starkville.
The couple will exchange vows on Jan. 17, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.
