North New Summit School is preparing for another year.
It is a non-traditional, accredited K-12 school that focuses on small class sizes and individualized instruction.
It offers Internet courses through its distance learning division, which is called “New Learning Resources Online.”
The online program is designed to guide students through the requirements necessary to earn a high school diploma, according to a press release. Students who qualify for the high school online diploma program will be eligible for the following track options: standard diploma, career diploma or credit advancement/recovery. The coursework is recognized in various avenues of continuing education, such as community and technical colleges, universities and the military, the school said.
North New Summit also offers tutoring to all students who may need extra help in any subject area. The program is scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the seventh period.
Through the Supplemental Educational Services, extra tutoring outside of the regular school day is available in reading, language arts and mathematics.
In partnership with the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and the Mississippi Community Education Center, New Learning Resources School District is certified to offer counseling services to students. Class discussions and activities address issues, such as character education, peer relationships, emotional health, abstinence and teen alcohol and drug use.
The school is located on Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive. Susan Floyd serves as school director, Carl Thach as principal and Donna Yeargin as counselor.
The original New Summit School — located in Jackson — was established in 1997, and the Greenwood campus opened in 2004.
