The Delta Belles Juniorette Club, a newly formed service organization for young women, will host a fundraising event, the "Kringle Jingle," on Dec. 6 at The ROC at North Greenwood Baptist Church.
The event, which will be held between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., will include a variety of fun holiday activities for children. Participants will be able to meet and have their picture taken with Santa Claus, write letters to Santa, make reindeer food, get their faces painted and decorate picture frames.
The Delta Belles "elves" also will serve refreshments.
Terry Grantham, a member of the LeBonte Womens Club and one of the Delta Belles' advisors, helped start the Delta Belles this year after attending a Summer Institute session on Juniorette Clubs.
"I knew that other Federated Women's Clubs had Juniorette Clubs for girls of various ages. I knew it would be a good thing for our club to consider," Grantham said.
It was decided that since many local girls in grades 10 through 12 were already involved with Altrusa's Astra Club and Junior Auxiliary's Crown Club, LeBonte's club would be open to seventh- through ninth-grade girls.
The club started out with 16 members and now has grown to include 32.
The girls selected 1 Timothy 4:12 as their motto: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
The club meets on the first Saturday of each month. The students must maintain a B average and complete 36 service hours every year to remain members of the club.
So far, the Delta Belles' service projects have included volunteering at Cottonlandia Museum, collecting money and pet food for the Leflore County Humane Society, volunteering at the shelter and helping LeBonte members landscape Habitat for Humanity homes.
This Christmas, the girls will be ringing bells for the Salvation Army and bringing toys to children at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
In the future, they would like to start a scholarship program and work with Crystal Health and Rehab.
Funds raised at the Kringle Jingle will help make projects like these possible.
Tickets to the Kringle Jingle are $10 for one child, $15 for two, $20 for three or $25 for four.
They may be purchased at the door or from any Delta Belles member and at the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
