The event will begin at 10 a.m. when the Lyon College Pipes and Drums will begin playing in front of the church.
First Presbyterian members Floyd Melton III and John Stewart III will hold the St. Andrews Cross and Rampant Lion flags on the street by the church on the side where the crowd will gather.
At 10:10 a.m., the onlookers will be invited to join a parade procession to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity behind the musicians and Scottish flags. Upon arrival, they will stand between the musicians and The Alluvian hotel. Small Scottish flags will be handed out.
At 10:15 a.m., the musicians will then turn right on Church Street and march to the Nativity Church.
Once there, the flag bearers will stand east and west of the musicians, framing them. The band will keep playing until most marchers are settled. Then, they will play a song for the group assembled there.
The Gulledge family will speak to cap the performance. They will give cheers to Scotland, the motherland of the Presbyterian Church, and to England, the motherland of the Episcopal Church.
The pipes will crank up, and the musicians, followed by the marchers, will head back to First Presbyterian Church.
At 11 a.m., the Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans service will begin with a procession of bagpipes and drums, blessing of the tartans and a sermon by Dr. James C. Goodloe IV.
Goodloe is a Presbyterian minister and executive director of the Foundation for Reformed Theology. He has degrees from Davidson College, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia and The University of Chicago. He has served churches in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
Lunch will follow in the education building. Tickets for lunch are available by calling the church office at 453-4680. A ticket for adults (11 and older) is $7, and a ticket for a children’s meal (peanut butter and jelly sandwich) is $2.
