This week, Jeneen Rucker will sign copies of her first book, “My Journey: A Daily Dialogue with God,” in Itta Bena — her hometown.
On Wednesday, Rucker will be on the campus of Mississippi Valley State University, her alma mater, for an alumni book signing at 10 a.m. in the foyer of J.H. White Library. The event is a part of Valley’s homecoming festivities.
On Thursday, Rucker will be at Itta Bena Public Library from 2:15 until 4:45 p.m.
While Rucker grew up in Itta Bena, she attended elementary school at St. Francis of Assisi School in Greenwood. She graduated from Leflore County High School and Mississippi Valley State, where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
Rucker and her husband, Gregory, have been married for 25 years and have two children, Galvin Christopher and Sydney Rucker. The Rucker family resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rucker is a member of Oasis of Hope Baptist Church, where she serves as head of the Deaconess Ministry and has served as the chairperson of the Women’s Ministry.
Rucker is currently on a book tour for “My Journey” and said she wanted to stop in Itta Bena, “because this is the place it all began.”
Rucker’s book is about a time period in her life that she said God had her “on the back side of the mountain.”
The experience, Rucker said, gave her the opportunity to spend intimate and personal time with God. It is also the inspiration for “My Journey.”
In the book, Rucker shares words of encouragement and growth. Rucker said it is her hope that, “everyone who reads her book will be freed from the bondage of inadequacy, low self-esteem, failure of success and the pain of rejection, so the door to freedom can be opened.”
Each individual devotional in the book has a “What is God saying to you?” note section, which provides those who are reading a way to personalize his or her communication with God.
