This Wednesday will mark the mainstage theater debut of Greenwood native Shelby Cade, who will be appearing in the University of Southern Mississippi's production of "Doubt."
Cade, the daughter of Chip and Conchetta Cade, graduated from Pillow Academy and is now a sophomore theater major at USM.
"Doubt," which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, takes place at a Catholic school in 1964. Conflict arises when one of the nuns, Sister Aloysius, suspects that her male colleague, Father Flynn, is behaving inappropriately towards Donald Muller, the school's first black student.
Cade will play the role of Sister James, a younger nun who is torn between her loyalties to Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn.
"I'm really excited," Cade said about her role in the production.
Cade, who was very involved in Greenwood's theater community, acted in many Greenwood Little Theatre and Pillow Academy productions.
She said some of her most notable performances included the role of Snoopy in GLT's production of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" and the role of Irena in Pillow's production of "I Never Saw Another Butterfly."
"We're very proud of her," said Cade's mother, Conchetta Cade. "She's just amazing — she's following her dreams."
"Doubt" will show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, then, following a week-long break, it will continue its run Oct. 24-27. The production will be held in the Hartwig Theater at USM.
