Greenwood Little Theatre’s production of “The Fox on the Fairway” gives its talented cast a lot of rich material to work with — conniving wives and husbands, concealed talents on the fairway and an age-old rivalry between two country clubs.
The production, overseen by first-time director Erin Jacobs, will be performed tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The final performance will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. The play features adult content and situations.
Most of the play’s action takes place in the tap room of the Quail Valley Golf and Country Club, where the club’s director, Henry Bingham, played by Alfred L. Brown, conspires to win the tournament against its rival, the Crouching Squirrel and Racket Club.
For the past five years, Crouching Squirrel has defeated Quail Valley in the interclub tournament. Bingham is determined to prevent another Quail Valley loss by any means necessary.
“Golf is not just a game. It’s a way of life,” Bingham intones to new hire Justin Hicks, played with manic intensity by Forrest Hodge.
The cast of “Fox” includes a mixture of new and old faces.
Newcomers include the Commonwealth’s own Laura Kay Prosser, who plays the “Fox,” Louise Heindbedder, a waitress at Quail Valley, who is also romantically involved with Hicks.
Sherrie Smith plays the club’s racy secretary, Pamela Peabody.
GLT veteran Ted MacIntosh portrays blowhard Dickie Bell, a member of Crouching Squirrel, who’s in need of being brought down a peg or two. Linda Stokes, who plays Muriel Bingham, the wife of Henry, who also has secrets galore.
“Fox” provides a lot of laughs over its two-hour run time.
