The B.B. King All-Stars Choir will hold auditions next week.
The choir is looking for sopranos, altos and tenors who are Delta-area students in grades 6-12.
The auditions will be held Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the B. B. King Museum’s AT&T Education Building, located at 400 Second St. in Indianola — between the B.B. King Museum and the Indianola Police Station. Students must come prepared with a solo song to sing.
Now in its second year, the B.B. King All-Stars Choir, aims to select the top young singers in the Mississippi Delta.
Dr. Cheryl Weiss, director of the choir, said that students who are selected will learn great music, perform for live audiences, travel and make new friends.
“I’m really excited to find such outstanding talent here in the Delta,” said Dr. Weiss. “It’s been a joy to work with such lively, enthusiastic singers this past year.”
During its first year, the standout choir performed for B.B. King and at his homecoming concert at the museum held in May.
The group has performed for Gov. Phil Bryant, several other Mississippi politicians and the Delta Council at the Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University. They also performed at the “Christmas in the Delta” program held at the Bologna Performing Arts Center last December and for local civic groups and organizations throughout the year.
Most recently, the B.B. King All-Stars Choir was one of nine choirs from across the United States selected to participate in the 15th annual Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans.
“We’ve had some wonderful performing experiences and are looking forward to this coming season,” said Weiss.
