The United Way of Leflore County raised $6,780 for local nonprofit agencies Tuesday night at a silent auction at The Alluvian.
The auction kicked off the United Way’s annual campaign. The overall goal for the year is to raise $212,000.
Last year’s silent auction raised $6,000.
For $20 at the door, guests enjoyed entertainment provided by Barbara Sheppard, drinks and appetizers compliments of The Alluvian and Giardina’s and an opportunity to win door prizes.
Guests also placed bids on more than 60 items donated by local merchants, with all proceeds benefiting the United Way.
All incomplete winning bids may be paid and items may be picked up at the United Way office at the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce building on U.S. 82.
Freda Maxey, executive director of the United Way of Leflore County, thanked everyone who helped, volunteered or donated, saying they did a great job.
