It's hard to believe we’re almost to October, and that means the holidays are right around the corner!
Here at the Chamber, we’ve got a few things coming up that may be of interest to the community, so mark your calendars for all these exciting opportunities.
Coming up on Thursday, Oct. 20, the Chamber is partnering with the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Board and the Governor’s Job Fair Network to host a job fair at the Leflore County Civic Center.
We’ve sent letters out to many of our area businesses inviting them to participate. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Of course, a job fair is a win-win for everyone involved. It’s a win for those businesses — large and small — who may be seeking employees, and it’s a win for those who are looking for a job.
If you are interested in having a booth space, please call the Chamber at 453-4152 to ask us how easy it is to set up a booth on that day. Booth spaces are only $125 and that covers the cost of hosting the fair and includes lunch for two people.
If you are interested in finding a job, come to the Civic Center on that day, properly dressed for job interviews and face-to-face interactions with potential employers, of course. You might want to bring copies of your resume, too.
On Oct. 25, we are planning a community-wide political forum at the Civic Center.
This will begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited (encouraged) to attend and hear from all the candidates who will be on the ballot for local elections on Nov. 8.
It’s a great opportunity to see which candidates you might want to vote for, and a great chance to meet them in person and get to know them a little better.
Admission is free to the general public.
On Tuesday, Nov. 8, we will celebrate our citywide Holiday Open House and Yuletide Trolley Ride.
Of course, that is election night, and some folks wonder why we do it on that same night. We’ve found that the turnout is great! Folks are already out to vote, and for those who are not out, it brings them out.
And, it’s a great way to spend the early part of your evening while waiting on election returns. It only takes a few minutes to vote, then you can get in the holiday spirit by doing a little shopping around town.
The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m., and we hope you’ll consider spending your holiday dollars right here in town this season.
Keeping it local is so important.
Retailers and restaurants who wish to participate in the event should call the Chamber today and sigh up.
Need a great Christmas idea but can’t make up your mind what to get? How about giving someone Chamber Bucks? We offer Chamber Bucks here at the Chamber, and it’s used just like cash at participating area Chamber member businesses.
What a great way to promote local shopping and spending!
We wish more people would take advantage of our Chamber Bucks.
And, don’t forget the 76th Annual Roy Martin Delta Band Festival and Christmas Parade on Friday, Dec. 2.
This year’s theme is "Lights, Camera, Action: Christmas at the Movies.”
Floats this year are asked to select from our list of Christmas movies and build their float around that theme. We’ve already had 10 floats and movie titles reserved for this year, so it’s shaping up to be a great parade so far.
Call us today to see what movie titles we have available for you. Some really good ones are still left.
Happy Fall! We’ll see you around town.
