The Bible tells us to give all our cares and worries to the Lord, and He will take care of what we turn over to Him. I have a confession to make: I am a worrier, especially when it comes to my family.
My only grandchild, Leila Rose, started first grade last week. She has been homeschooled by her mama during her kindergarten years. I knew that she was prepared for the schoolwork, but I worried about her going away to “big school.” I’m a grandmother and can’t help it. I am also a teacher and know what school can sometimes be like. I worried that she wouldn’t like school or that someone might hurt her feelings. I needn’t have worried.
I conducted an “Interview with a First-grader” last week. Leila was a very willing participant.
Where do you go to school? Pillow Academy. We are called the Mustangs.
Who is your teacher? Mrs. Bellipanni. She is nice and very beautiful.
How was your first week? It was great!
What does your classroom look like? It is full of rainbows and smiley faces.
What is your favorite subject? Math. I really like numbers.
What extra activities do you have? Art, music, computer, library and P.E. I really like music and P.E.
Do you like wearing your PA uniform? I do. Mommy lets me pick out what I wear every day. On Friday, we get to wear our cheerleader uniforms for the football game.
What do you do for lunch every day? Some days I order and sometimes I bring my lunch. The cafeteria is huge!
What is your favorite thing about school? I have made new friends and get to play on the playground.
What do you do after school each day? I go to Homework Express and have a snack and play until Mommy picks me up after her work. I don’t go on Friday, because Mommy picks me up.
Is there anything that you don’t like about school? That they don’t let you come on Saturday.
God Bless Her! I can’t wait until Grandparents Day.
I love versatile recipes. Today, I have a basic cheese straw recipe with several variations for the dough. Hope you will give them a try. Thanks for reading.
CHEESE COOKIES
1 jar Kraft old English sharp cheese
1½ cups flour
1 stick butter
½ teaspoon red pepper
½ teaspoon salt
Blend softened butter and cheese together. Mix dry ingredients together, and work into cheese mixture. Roll about a teaspoon of dough into a ball and place on a cookie sheet. Press top with a criss-cross made by the tines of a fork. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
(This can easily be doubled.)
CRISPY CHEESE COOKIES
Add 1 cup of Rice Krispies cereal to the prepared Cheese Cookie dough and mix well. Prepare and bake as regular Cheese Cookies.
