Next on our agenda is yet another healthy event, our 300 Oaks Road Race. This event has something for everyone, including running and walking!
The date is set for Sept. 21, and that time of year always promises favorable temperatures for outdoor exercise. Make your plans now to participate.
New this year, all events will be computer chip-timed. We offer a 10K run, a 5K run, a 5K walk and a one-mile fun run. There’s just no reason for you not to come out and take a step towards a healthier you.
The 5K walk features a team component, so if your business, church or youth group, social club or friends group wishes to participate, we offer a discounted team rate. You must have at least five members on your team.
We do give awards for the largest team, the fastest team, and so forth. It’s a super fun way to get out and work together, while getting some great exercise.
All registrations, including team registrations, can be done online at www.300-oaks.com. If you have trouble registering, give us a call at 453-4152. We’ll help you walk through the process.
This race features more than 800 participants each year, so don’t be left out. Come and join us! If you just want to volunteer, we can find a spot for you as well. Give us a call, and let us know that you’d like to help.
A very special thanks to our event sponsors, including Cannon Chevrolet, Viking Range Corporation, Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Delta Distributing, Crystal Health and Rehabilitation, WABG TV, the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Greenwood, Upshaw Law Office, Beard+Riser Architects, Max 99 Radio, Greenwood Marketplace, the Greenwood Commonwealth, Hart Kittle State Farm Insurance, Suddenlink, Edward Jones Investments, Greenwood Children’s Clinic, Sonic Drive-In, Planters Bank and Trust Company, Webster’s Bar and Grill, Shoney’s Restaurant, Harold Floyd Heating and Air and Greenwood Coca-Cola.
Whew. That’s a list! We could not do these fantastic community events without the help of all our sponsors, so a big thanks goes out to them for making the investment. It’s good for us, and it’s great name exposure for them as well.
All participants will receive a great 300 Oaks T-shirt, and we’ll have a pre-race party with complimentary hors d’ouevres and drinks at the Hampton Inn on Sept. 20 from 4-8 p.m. You can pick up your race packets at this party.
On the day of the race, participants will enjoy a post-race party on Front Street with complimentary hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, ice cold beverages, awards and live entertainment.
Registration is now open, so be sure not to wait. Go ahead and get signed up today. If you’re thinking about a team, now is the time to be putting that team together.
On another note, welcome to our newest chamber members CoAva Coffee House and Bakery on Howard Street, Treasure & Co. next to Conerly’s on Park Avenue and Lu’s Bulk Food Warehouse on U.S. 82 on the way to the airport. Be sure to visit these new businesses and always remember to “Shop Greenwood” when you can.
And last but not least, mark your calendar for Sept. 5. We’ll join Southern Ag Credit for a Business After Hours to kick off the fall season. Chamber members and their guests are invited to attend. It will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. See you there!
