We’re counting down the days until our annual Stars and Stripes Festival and community picnic. The event is set for June 26 at the park between the bridges on the Yazoo River.
We hope you and your family and friends are making plans to join us for this exciting community gathering.
The schedule of events is as follows:
• 6 p.m.: Park opens
• 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Meet the Press takes the stage for live entertainment
• 7 p.m.: Boat parade on the Yazoo River
• 7:30 p.m.: Veterans tribute and flyover
• 8 p.m.: Meet the Press returns to the stage
• 9 p.m.: Fireworks on the Veterans Bridge
We’re so very excited about this year’s lineup, and we know you’ll have a great time. This is a free community event, with the exception of any food you might like to purchase from one of our non-profit food vendors.
The inflatables are also $5 for an armband, and everything else is free. All inflatable proceeds go to help our Leadership Greenwood class with their class project.
OF course, this event would not even be possible without the help and support of many in the community. We’d like to thank the following for their contributions and support of this event:
City of Greenwood, Leflore County Board of Supervisors, Greenwood Utilities, Dixieland Inflatables, Cannon Motor Company, Milwaukee Tool, APAC of Mississippi, Upchurch Plumbing, The Greenwood Commonwealth, RC Construction, Staplcotn, Planters Bank and Trust Company, Kiwanis Club of Greenwood, Fincher’s Inc./Fincher’s Kids, Trustmark National Bank, Fred T. If you see any of these sponsors, please be sure to thank them personally for helping to make this community event possible.
We are also looking for boats to participate in the parade. If you have a boat, we encourage you to decorate it in patriotic colors and participate.
The more boats we have, the better. The top decorated boat will receive a $100 cash prize. See you on June 26!
