One event is down, and another one is on the way!
We’re now in 300 Oaks mode, and this is one of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce’s signature events. We’ve been doing this event for 33 years — wow.
The date is set for Sept. 20, and this is one of our biggest events of year.
One of the new (and super-fun!) elements this year is the one-mile fun run costume contest. We are encouraging everyone who participates in this particular run to come out dressed in your craziest costume. We’ll give some great prizes to the top three winning costumes.
Also, new this year are our awards. We’ll wait and let that be a surprise, but no more trophies! We’ve got some great alternatives, and we’re working hard to make our awards top-notch.
Another new element this year is the 10K team. You can put together a 10K run team just like the 5K walk team, and we’ll give an award to the fastest 10K run team.
Don’t forget that a team must have a minimum of five people.
As for the 5K run, that’s pretty much the same, as well as the 5K walk.
I do want to take this opportunity to tell you that we want to encourage teams for the 5K walk. A team can consist of just about any group of people: friends, family, co-workers/corporate/business, church, civic group, etc.
We get the biggest groups of teams from our business community, and it’s a fantastic way to do a little team-building and come out for a great morning of exercise and camaraderie. I encourage you to be thinking of a great team you can put together.
We also give awards for the fastest and the largest team, so get your team together now.
Registration is now open at www.300oaks.com, and this event is just around the corner, so don’t wait. If you need help registering your team, call us at 453-4152, and we’ll be happy to help you.
All participants of 300 Oaks get a race T-shirt and access to the post-race party by the Yazoo River, with free hamburgers, hot dogs and cold beverages.
Also, if your group is interested in doing a water station, we welcome you to help us out! We ask water stations to have a theme and dress up. This makes it so much fun for our runners and walkers. We also give an award to the best water station. There are six water stops along the route, and we also have one at the finish area. Let us know if you’re interested.
Let’s all get out and get healthy!
