Last week, we mentioned a great Business After Hours opportunity at Beard+Riser Architects coming up on Sep. 8. That date has been changed to Sept. 6, so be sure to mark your calendar
We’ll join the crew at Beard+Riser at their offices on the corner of Main and Market streets at 5 p.m. for this great networking event.
Another bonus of this Business After Hours is the opening of a photography exhibit by Kathleen Robbins, who will be displaying her collection, “Into the Flatland.” Chamber members and their guests are invited to attend.
We’re always looking for Chamber member businesses to host a Business After Hours event. It’s a tremendous opportunity for your business to gain some great exposure and to give the public a chance to see your business up close and personal. The hosting of a Business After Hours event is easy. We’ll make it simple for you, and it’s very affordable for the exposure that you gain.
We all know that people like to do business with those who they know, and this is a great way to get to know more people in the community. So whether you are hosting or just attending, Business After Hours is a great exposure opportunity.
If your business is interested, please contact us at the Chamber at 453-4152. We have October and November filled up, and we don’t usually have one in December, but starting in January, we have openings, so be sure to get on our calendar today.
Another exciting event is taking place this week with our Greenwood-Leflore Young Professionals group. They are hosting a Teach for America reception at the Viking Training Center on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to host many of the new Teach For America teachers in our area and hopefully to get them involved in GLYP and in the community. We want to make all of them feel welcome and encourage them to hopefully stay in Greenwood and make this their home once their contract is fulfilled.
Speaking of GLYP, this group is growing by leaps and bounds, and if you are between the ages of 21 and 40 and want to get involved in your community, GLYP is a great way to do just that. They have become a great support group to the Chamber and all its activities, and they have their own programming, community service and social opportunities as well.
You can find a GLYP membership application on our website, www.greenwoodms.com. Be sure to check it out.
Welcome to our newest chamber member, Mills and Rodgers Law Offices. They are located on Front Street in the former law office of the late Arnold “Bo” Gwin. We welcome Katie Mills and Trish Rodgers to our chamber and wish them all the best success in their new business venture.
One final note: We welcome and congratulate all our new associate members at Mississippi Valley State University! We had a tremendous membership drive at Valley last week and signed up 54 new associate members.
We are so excited to see all the MVSU involvement in the chamber once again, and we welcome all of those folks to our team.
Congratulations to Chamber President Suresh Chawla for his hard work in setting up that recruitment effort. A special thanks also goes out to Larry Griggs, Sheila McCool and Chamber Vice President Kelvin Scott for also helping out on that day.
If you have been thinking about joining the chamber and helping to make a difference in your community, now’s a great time to do just that.
Call us today and let us share with you why chamber membership is a great investment.
