Vincenzo and Joyce Ann Verderajme of Greenwood will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
The couple married on May 30, 1959.
They met around Valentine’s Day in February of 1959 in downtown Greenwood at Alice Café, a Greek restaurant on East Market Street where Joyce’s mother worked.
Mrs. Verderajme is the former Joyce Ann Irwin of Leflore County.
Mr. Verderajme is a native of Cefalu, Sicily. His mother was born in Leland, and he came to the United States at age 17 in 1955.
The Verderajmes honeymooned at Lake Ferguson in Greenville.
Before retiring, Joyce was a cashier at Fred’s and Piggly Wiggly in Greenwood and Toys “R” Us in Chicago.
Before retiring, Vincenzo was employed at New Deal Tobacco, Swift & Co. and Food Giant in Greenwood and Omni Super Store in Chicago.
The Verderajmes have four children — Victor, Lisa, John and Anna. They have four grandchildren — Josh, Niki, Joey and Loretta — and three great-grandchildren.
In celebration of their 60th anniversary, the couple will have their marriage blessed by the Rev. Ted Dorcey at the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 25, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood.
A reception will follow at Serio’s Restaurant.
Friends and relatives of the couple are invited.
